“Pardon my French” but I can’t think of a better way to say it: “reculer pour mieux sauter”. Or in English: “Step back to jump further”
As an entrepreneur, you have countless ways to improve or grow your business. You could add new features to your product, boost your sales efforts, or attend every possible networking event or tradeshow. Most of these activities focus on doing more of what you’re already doing. In the best case, this leads to incremental improvements.
If you truly want to innovate and uncover new opportunities, taking a step back and pausing for a moment can be the strongest driver of your success.
Taking the time to step back and disconnect from the-day-to-day business is necessary. It creates the space you need to:
- Define what growth means to you: is it about improving, expanding or even stopping what no longer serves you? (link to newsletter)
- Be creative and look at things from a different angle.
- Shift your focus from short-term results to long-term impact.
- Reflect on your vision. What do you want your business to look like? Who do you want to be?
- Think BIG and explore avenues for exponential growth, rather than settling for incremental improvements.
- Anticipate and be proactive, instead of being reactive when an opportunity or challenge arises.
Taking a step back doesn’t mean slowing down, it gives you to clarity to make better and smarter moves. Don’t you love that moment when you say “I never thought of it this way” and have that breakthrough idea ?!
So before adding more and doing more, take a moment to pause, reassess and realign. It might just be the most powerful growth move you make this year.
